Talking to two.

"Why do you have marker on your face, kid?"
"I'm not a kid. I Bronson."
"Right you are. But why do you have marker on your face? Who did it?"
"DADDY!!"
"Yeah right. Daddy is at school."
"OK ... It was Jimmer."

Make it. Wear it. A lot.

If I had a nickle for every time Toph said to me, "Church is in 20 minutes. Step away from the sewing machine."
I'd have at least like 5 nickles (serious cash flow, right there.).
But you know, sometimes you just need to whip up a hot pink maxi right before Stake Conference.
Because you'll totally want to nap in it right after Stake Conference.
For around four hours. Gotta love napping til bed time.
(To make: take some stretchy fabric, cut out 2 pieces, sew those two pieces together into a tube. add elastic at the waist. done.)

What we've been up to
So I've been "resting" lately. And so far that's included couch time plus:

Goodwilling it up with Carlos and trying on matching denim jumpsuits. It was really special.
Synchronized head tilting is in our blood. PS: do people laugh/point at you when you're thrifting?
While we were there I BOUGHT MYSELF shoes. And I was gonna just be sneaky and never mention it for shame but they're
Croft & Barrow oxfords that I've been wearing non-stop since I made them mine, so you'll be seeing them lots.

The.most.comfortable.shoes.I've.ever.owned. No hiding that.
(Tally: I've spent $28.00 bucks this year, the oxfords were $7.99. Honest.)
I also attended the Relief Society broadcast for our church and was blown away by this talk.
Seriously. Blown away. Check it out ladies.
What's your golden ticket? I have lots but I'm working on them. Sigh.
I wore my thrifted oxfords, a freepiled sweater, plus this sweet swapped skirt:

I also gave up cooking. Cold turkey.
Last week's menu?
Vito's (pizza). Habit (burgers). Chipotle (duh. burritos). Frozen pizza.
Chipotle again. IHOP. Habit again. Trader Joe's mandarin chicken. Pinkberry.

But don't worry, to counterbalance all of that, I also quick working out.
Yeah, next week's gonna suck.
I also hit the library BY MYSELF!! Miracle.

I got four books but in all the, "I can look at anything I want without a kicking/screaming 2 year old!" excitement,
I forgot the one I really wanted: BOSSYPANTS. Dang it.
I forgot the one I really wanted: BOSSYPANTS. Dang it.
The most exciting thing that happened this week was definitely the dip in temperature.
We've been having 90+ degree days but all of the sudden it feels like fall!
B and I also made it to the park everyday, dumpster dived a new project
(a cute little vintage side table that need some paint. asap.) and watched way too much t.v. Resting week was good.
My cough still lives and the Kleenex usage is beyond but we're getting there.

I just want to be able to laugh again without sounding like I've had a pack a day habit for the last 20 years, you know?

I'm pretty worried about it, truthfully ... hahahaha! This is my fave picture of me ever.
(Sorry everybody who knows me on FB/twitter but I just love it. So much. Glamor shots were obviously my true calling in life.)

Couch pics+ JUMPING PICS
Some views from my couch:

Our couch is too smalllll.

Don't be fooled by the under-roos, he wears them over his diapers.
No overachieving-potty-trained-by-two stuff going on here. I wish.
Please note the baseball shirt, soccer ball underpants and the blank stare.
He was watching The Sandlot (he still can't get enough).

Speaking of mailing clothes: Leah!
Thanks so much for the rad skirts, so sweet of you to send me something to jazz up my no spendage!
This cool tribal-y one might be my fave, makes me jump for joy (a few days ago when jumping was safer)!
You rock.

Qs & As: MEEEE!
My mom says I have pneumonia. Whatever. I think my wizard powers are just finally coming in.
I've always been a late bloomer.
Either way, I'm supposed to be resting (maybe our busy weekend did me in?) and I have been:
in my pj's with the fish eye setting on. Hahahabahabahaha. (It's nice to know what I look like while smooching ... luckyyy!)
Anyway, I thought I'd take this down time to answer a few reader questions.
...
...
You know, Toph is gonna be a lawyer someday. When he is, are you finally gonna just walk into a normal store and just buy clothes?
Haha! Love it. And: no. I prolly won't ever see the value in buying clothes at full price.
For me the fun comes from digging through piles of clothes, scoring things for really cheap, and finding things not everybody else has. So no, we'll spend our money on eating out. I have no problem whatsoever paying others to cook/clean up after us. The future looks yummy.
What's your fave thrift store?
My mom and the girls in my fam take a trip to Portland, OR every summer and while there we hit this ginorm Goodwill in Sandy. I still have stuff I found there from 8 summers ago.
Do you ever plan to post B's birth story?
Sure: It was real long, it hurt, there were no drugs involved, just lots of pitocin (I hate you pit!!) and I'd totally/probably go natural again.
How did you learn to sew?
I never really did and I don't sew very well. I only really make elastic waist skirts and basic shirts. Having/borrowing a machine is the first step (my sister let's me use hers, thanks Hel!!) to learning though and I love trying.

You talk a lot about quotable movies, what's your fave movie?
NAP D! aka Napoleon Dynamite. I wish with all my heart that I could see that movie for the first time again. It was the best experience of my life. Gordy and I pretty much peed our pants and fell off our chairs laughing. Literally, from the moment I saw the first trailer for it to Kip's last dropped beat, I never stopped laughing. My mom took Gordy to Preston, Idaho to see where it was filmed 5 years ago and I'm still uber jealous.

I noticed on twitter you were bagging on Twilight, what's up with that? You suck!
I know, I know! I've never liked Twilight, and don't tell me to read them and try again because I gagged my way through the first two and had to re-read all of the Harry Potter's just to revive myself. Sorry everybody, I'm no Twihard.

You mentioned that you hate clutter but your place seems to have lots going on. Do you collect anything?
Yep, I collect plastic retro teacups, pretty handkerchiefs and interesting hangers. I hang up all of these collections so they don't become too cluttery though.

Who's your fave HP character?
Ummmmmm, the Weasley twins. Twofer.
Ummmmmm, the Weasley twins. Twofer.
I don't get the name of your blog (sorry that's not really a question!)?
So I freepile. The stuff was yours, now it's mine and I guess that makes it ours? Not my fave anymore and I'd have gone with something shorter looking back. But you know that 1968 movie by the same name with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda? One of my faves growing up. I love when the dad cuts his tie into the sandwich! HahahaCLASSIChahaha.

Thanks for the questions, some of them were totally from my "anonymous" fam. Nice, guys.
And I so don't have pneumonia, just a cough that won't quit and aches and pains. Whatev. Moms always jump to the craziest conclusions, right Steph?
BTW, how's your alopecia doing? ;)

So voila:

Yeah. He's pretty much a budding photographer.
Budding, I say!

My fam+a guest post

Today I'm over at We talk of Christ, We rejoice In Christ
talking about how my little fam can be together forever. Because I know we can be.
And thank goodness!
PS: How cute is that little boy pic of Toph?
He looks exactly the same as he does today-worried, blue eyed- but in a little nugget body. Presh.

Law Wives From Coast to Coast: Me
OK so it's my turn. I'm a law wife too!
Here we go:
Here we go:
...
Where does your hubby attend school?
UC Davis, he's currently a 3L.
UC Davis, he's currently a 3L.
What's been the hardest thing about his being in law school so far?
Feeling guilty about having so many loans. It was a huge shock to go from BYU undergrad tuition to the ever increasing Davis tuition. Laaame.
What's been the best thing so far?
Where we ended up for law school! We LOVE our ward/town. We've made some amazing friends, had some of the best family times ever, and overall just really enjoy it here (sometimes I seriously feel like we live in Stars Hollow ... then I wake up & get a life but still!).
What's one thing you wish someone had told you before school started?
That not every law student will be the same. All I ever heard before school was that every guy will be gone all the time, studying, studying studying. That I should expect to be away from my hubby all the time. Not so for us. We live very near campus so Toph is able to be home a lot of the time. Which is great but sometimes I compare how much I see him study to all those others I heard about and I get naggy (me? naggy? never!). I wish I'd heard from a different perspective besides the "He'll be in the library constantly" people. Toph is the fastest reader alive, pretty much (It's kinda awesome) and he studies at home most of the time.
What's your biggest money saving tip for other starving law students?
Don't spend money. But do fun, cheap things. No but for reals, I mentioned a lot of my tips here. Besides those, maybe start saving all your change in a big jar labeled "5th anniversary trip 2012!!!" Hint hint Toph. Next years a biggie. Don't forget.
Do you have any advice for couples just starting out in law school?
Again, don't compare. Every body's experiences will be different. A lot depends on where you go to school, what the job market is like there, etc. Do your best, learn to support your hubby's study habits and don't pressure him to do more/less just because the other kids are ("remember who you are" "choose the right!!" etc.).
Anything else you'd like to add?
If you can, it's really cool to have a group of people to hang with that you can talk about hidden Bar costs etc. with. We have a little law wives group in our ward and I highly recommend it!
Also, a little bit of background: We'd been married over 2 years when we went to law school and B was just 3 weeks old when we moved to Davis. So I've never been lonely while Toph was in class or whatev. B and I hang out all day and I've had a great time working on our apartment since we've been here. Projects (are babies projects?) make the time fly!

And that completes our tour of law wives from all up over.

suggestions please??

I made this shirt, yada yada yada.
Whatev, what I really need are song ideas to add to my Spotify workout playlist
(I added Hoedown Throwdown the other day. Bottom of the barrel here, people!)
I know there are tons of pump it up songs but whenever I sit down to add a few, my mind goes blank.
I recently added my HS band crush Good Charlotte so the teenage angst quota is filled, no worries there.
Plus there's some Black Eyed Peas, Hanson, and even Glee (I am so not a gleek but their mashups are pretty good).
So what are your fave songs to workout to?
Oh, and I don't believe in Lady Gaga so that might shut some things down.
And now you're all thinking, "You be lame, girl." It's true. :(
