it was kind of my fave

Now for a date that Toph planned: He got tickets to the Kings vs Jazz game (for insanely cheap)! I was so excited because
I'm a major Jimmer fan (the one thing Bronze and I can agree on lately: Jimmer is number one) and seeing him play live was sooooo cool.
And OK, so he only played for like two minutes but as they say, "Two minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven."

AND he sank a three!! It was too much. I lost my voice screaming.
Fun fact: I love watching basketball and I'm super competitive.
Plus: We won!!!! Lucky charm, right here.

It was such a great time!
Probably the best part came after the game though. When we had to search the parking lot to find our car ... for 45 minutes.
Next time I'll take fewer pics of myself and more pics of the parking locale. Check.

you can take the girl out of the podunk ...

We went on another Walmart date ..... I know! But, in my defense, we were visiting my fam a and there's not much to do in Red Bluff in terms of night life. Walmart is kinda where it's at. (And it's not even super Walmart, it's just simple Walmart. Dark.ages.) Anyway, I made up a list of of things we had to take pics of for a cell phone camera scavenger hunt. The goal was to get a pic of everything on the list (and first!) but not let the other person know when you're taking pics. So fun. Clearly I missed my calling as an event planner!!!
the list + the players

something I'd buy for B + something I thought was hilarious (inflatable turkeys!!)

something I want + something that reminds me of Toph

something I never want to eat + something I'd buy for my mom ... or myself. whatevs.

We wrapped up the night by catching up on 30 Rock and snacking on delish delishes.
his + hers

Toph's scavenger hunt pics were pretty awesome + we had such a good time being picture ninjas.
We also ran into every  single person in the world that we know.  Walmart is so where it's at in Red Bluff.

how we do

The only way we can afford to go out every week is because we've been swapping babysitting with some amazing friends from church. Babysitting is a must! If we take Bronson along, it's not a date. It's just us chasing him around some place way too public.
So swapping has been perfect, every weekend we're guaranteed either Friday or Saturday night and B's guaranteed two play dates.

Pretty sure he loves it.

here & there

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

1- Jam session! The boys need some guy time together every day.
2- Toph playing it cool on a family walk. I slid down first though!!! But there's no photographic proof of my cool. :(
3- When daddy says, "Haircut time!" B's totally game. When I say it .... B's totally cray cray.
4- "Bronson! Why you no like me?! I so cool I can bounce soccer balls off my head! LOVE ME!!!"
5- One thing the kid does love? The vintage school chair he found next to the dumpster. One of his very first dumpster dives, I'm so proud!

talking to two ... has been THE WORST lately.

Toph snapped these pics during a rare moment when Bronson would let me near him. We've been having a hard time together lately. (Understatement!!!) Ever since we got back from our trip, Bronze has been really hot and cold. Actually, he's been more like hot and insane.
One minute he's the sweet, non tantrum throwing kid I've known for the past 2.5 years and the next, he's FREAKING out over everything.  Lately he talks to me like a little teenager, "Mommy get outta my room, I need privacy." "Mom, stop talking. You talk too much!" But, on the bright side: He's also refusing to nap. (kill.me.) We went from four hour naps daily, to zero hour quiet times overnight. Ohmygosh. I quit! Except I don't/can't.
I love this kid but I'm pretty sure I liked him more when he was respectful and well rested. Naturally, daddy is still uber awesome and B can't get enough of him. So when the, "I no like you mommy, you're not in the cool club!" mood appears and Toph's around, I gladly pass him off.
More than gladly.

"wow! look at the moon!!!"

When I'm on the phone, I leave the house to walk and talk. I'm a phone walker.
So the other night I went out for a quick call and took my camera with.
Did you know the moon comes out pretty much every night? And that it's gorgeous?? I know!

Staring at the moon, I kept thinking of one of my fave quotes from The Chosen:
"A span of life is nothing. But the man who lives that span, he is something.
He can fill that tiny span with meaning, so its quality is immeasurable though its quantity may be insignificant."

I LOVE that book. And the moon. And (responsible) phone walking!

clean eats

I've been missing cereal. Even the "healthy" kind I buy Toph/B when it's on super sale at Grocery Outlet has some kind of sugar in it. I used to make granola growing up but it called for lots of oil and subsequently took forev to dry out in the oven. And I wanted some this morning for breakfast. Not in July to munch on during the Olympics. (Sooo excited for those, BTW!!!) So behold: My new go to granola recipe.
So simple, so good, and so much quicker to cook.

Ingredients:
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped raw almonds
1 TB ground flax seed (optional)
1/2 cup applesauce
1/4 cup honey
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg

Put all the ingredients in a big bowl and mix together until the dry ingredients are covered in the honey and applesauce.
Spread out on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. The granola is done when it's dry and golden brown. Let it cool then eat the whole dang batch. Or make once a week and eat responsibly. Makes about 4 cups.
...

There are tons of other things you can throw into this base recipe to mix it up as well:
100% cocoa powder
dried cranberries (add at the end of cooking so they don't burn)
raisins (ditto)
walnuts
maple
vanilla
pumpkin
chia seeds
etc.

YUMfreakingYUM.

our mini trip: part 2

While Toph was lawyering at the conference, I wandered around Stanford with my journal, a book, and my camera.
I kept realizing, "I can sit here and read for as long as I want and no one's gonna climb in the fountains and get me in trouble!!
Unless I feel like taking a dip and getting myself in trouble."
Best realization ever. And I was able to refrain from fountain swimming. For once.
(the bathrooms were stellar. bonus points!)

Before we left for the conference, a friend  told us to make sure we saw the Rodin Collection while at Stanford.
We carved out a few minutes for it and it.was.amazing.

Highlights of the trip:
- the art museum!! (pseudo Hedwig!!!)
- talking to grown ups
- catered food
- bowling with a bunch of future lawyers. hilarious.
- realizing I can survive a few nights without checking on Bronze every few minutes. I didn't think I had it in me.
- wearing the same pants + shoes for three days ... next time I'll pack better.

Thanks for watching Bronze, mom! And you too, Toto! We had a fantab time. :)

our mini trip: part 1

Toph had a law conference to go to at Stanford University last week and I decided to go with.
HUGE DEAL: I haven't been away from B overnight since he was hatched!
(Besides when he was in the hospital but that was super surreal and I never think about it so it doesn't count.)
My mom came to stay with B and we headed off to make the most of not having a toddler in tow.

First we stopped in San Fran to grab breakfast, walk around, and pick up a friend from the airport. We tried to go to the Grubstake for some Triple D action but it was closed (!!!) so we hit up a little local deli instead. It was delish but I realllly wanted to add another Triple D to the list. Dang it. PS: How the heck do people cross that bridge to get into the city every day?? I have a panic attack just thinking about it. Dang it.

Next we drove to Palo Alto and over to the campus. HOLY COW Stanford is gorgeous!! There were fountains and sculptures everywhere, the architecture was incredible and the Memorial Church was amazing. We got lost a few times and saw lots while wandering around trying to figure out where we needed to be. With Bronze safe at home and us out of the house, everything seemed pretty amaze brigade. More pics to come!

my year for heart day

Valentines day was low key. Muumuu and pizza on the living room floor low key.
That's what you get when I'm at the wheel.

But for reals: Toph LOVES me in a muumuu. Not sure why but I don't question it because comfort beats sense.
Also, Toph sent me flowers and they are gorgeous! (And still going strong a week later!)
It was an awesome surprise and totally trumped my muumuu. Whatevs.
